PUPUKEA
State controls coastal bluffs

Advertiser Staff

After two decades of work, the Pupukea-Paumalu coastal bluffs are under state control.

The Trust for Public Land and the North Shore Community Land Trust transferred the fee title of 1,104 acres to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Parks.

The division will hold the land as a park reserve.

Some $7.95 million was raised to purchase the land.

The North Shore land trust will work with the state, city, community and neighboring landowners on a plan for the future use of the property.

The trust has established a fund for the permanent protection of the property.
