The 12th-ranked Hawai'i women's volleyball team swept Idaho, 30-25, 30-26, 30-21, last night in a Western Athletic Conference match at Moscow, Idaho, for its 12th victory in a row.

The Rainbow Wahine improved to 15-3 overall and 9-0 in the WAC.

With two wins on this road trip and one match to go, UH coach Dave Shoji said his team was "taking care of business," but also needs to stay focused.

Jamie Houston led Hawai'i with 15 kills, 20 digs and three aces, and Juliana Sanders added 12 kills and eight blocks.

UH trailed 11-9 in the first game, but scored 11 in a row to take a 20-11 lead. The run included two aces by Amber Kaufman. The 'Bows built a 28-16 lead, which included two aces by Houston. But the Vandals didn't back down, scoring nine in a row to close to 28-25. Kills by Aneli Cubi-Otineru and Houston closed out the match.

"We were far ahead and lost focus," Shoji said. "We went on a 10-point run, and we must have given up 10 straight ... almost gave it all back. We played a little shaky at the end of game one, but we had a big lead so it didn't matter."

The Vandals took the momentum into the second game, staying with the Rainbows until 12-12. UH took the lead for good on a kill by Cubi-Otineru. The 'Bows' lead was never more than four the rest of the way.

Idaho closed to 28-26, but a Houston kill and an ace by Stephanie Brandt ended it.

"(The Vandals) were playing well, they dug a lot of balls, and we had some trouble stopping their best hitter (Haley Larsen)," Shoji said. "But we came through when it counted."

Larsen finished with a match-high 20 kills. Sarah Loney added eight for the Vandals.

"We got off to slow start, but once we steadied out we were in control," Shoji said. "We continue to get better in passing and defense."

In the third game, the Rainbows never trailed, going out to a 14-10 lead, then used an 8-1 run for a 22-11 cushion.

Hawai'i served a season-high nine aces, including four in each of the first two games. Along with Houston's three, Kaufman and Tara Hittle each had two, and Brandt and Jayme Lee added one apiece.

"It's nice to get free points like that," Shoji said. "We continue to serve tough every night. Tonight we had five different people with aces — that's a good thing."

UH had 10 team blocks to Idaho's five, led by Sanders, who had a solo block to go with her seven assists. She also hit .455 for the match.

"Sanders continues to gives us a lot of offense and blocking," Shoji said. "She's been a steady player for us the past few matches."

The Rainbow Wahine complete their road trip tomorrow with a match against Utah State at Logan, Utah.
