Local groups receive grants

Two Hawai'i groups are receiving some of the $8 million being given out nationwide by the National Taxpayer Advocate for operators of low-income taxpayer clinics.

The Legal Aid Society of Hawaii was given $50,000 in matching grants while Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii received $27,500. The grants are given to organizations that provide free or low-cost tax help to low-income taxpayers.


PRUDENTIAL: $1B IN HOME SALES

Prudential Locations LLC brokered more than $1 billion in Hawai'i home sales last year, ranking the company 26th in business volume out of nearly 700 real-estate affiliates of Prudential Financial.

Prudential Locations employs about 280 agents in five offices on O'ahu and Maui.

Last year, there was nearly $9.7 billion in sales of existing single-family homes and condominiums statewide, according to Prudential.


HPU SELECTED MARKETER OF YEAR

Hawai'i Pacific University has been named Marketer of the Year by the American Marketing Association Hawai'i Chapter.

The university was recognized for its recruitment campaign to increase inquiries, applications and enrollment at the school.

The AMA chapter also acknowledged the following campaigns:

  • Hawai'i Visitor and Convention Bureau's "Picture Hawai'i Contest" as the state's best campaign involving e-marketing.

  • Wahoo's Fish Taco's grassroots branding efforts as the best campaign in marketing of a new product or service.

  • Pacific Aviation Museum-Pearl Harbor's "Grand Opening Membership Drive" as the best marketing campaign by a nonprofit.

    The chapter also awarded two $500 scholarships to Julia Pranz of Hawai'i Pacific University and Sean Hori of the University of Hawai'i.


    CASTLE TEAMS UP WITH OCEAN

    Castle Resorts & Hotels said it will start a sales and marketing partnership June 1 with Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki, which adds 450 rooms to its Waikiki inventory .

    Castle will manage the sales and marketing for the resort including contracting, direct sales, online and traditional marketing, and reservations.
