Woman injured at Kapena Falls

An 18-year-old woman was injured yesterday at Kapena Falls pool in Nu'uanu.

The woman suffered cuts to her head and leg while swinging on a rope at the pool at 3:19 p.m., officials said.

An engine company from the Nu'uanu Fire Station and city Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the incident. The woman was walked out by firefighters and taken to The Queen's Medical Center.



SEIZURE SUSPECTED IN FATAL ACCIDENT

Big Island police traffic investigators said they suspect an Ahualoa man may have suffered a medical emergency before his pickup truck crashed Saturday on Old Mamalahoa Highway and Kapuna Road on the Hamakua Coast.

An autopsy will be performed on Louis D. Vierra, 70.

Vierra's 1984 Toyota pickup ran off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, rolled back onto the road and struck a utility pole at about 9:04 a.m.

He was pronounced dead at North Hawai'i Community Hospital at 9:57 a.m.



2 CHARGED WITH VEHICLE BREAK-INS

Prosecutors yesterday charged a man and woman with breaking into and removing items from two parked vehicles Friday at a Ward Avenue location.

Brian Cagimat Hattal, 35, of Waipahu, and Margaret Ann Watkins, 36, of Waipi'o, were each charged with two counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle. Bail was set at $25,000 each.

Both are felons with two prior convictions, according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records.

Police reported witnessing the break-ins, which they said occurred Friday at 8 p.m.

According to police, the suspects drove into a parking lot, and Hattal allegedly took items from vehicles of a 43-year-old male visitor and local male resident, 52.

Watkins allegedly drove the suspects' vehicle, which was stopped by police a short distance away.



WALLETS STOLEN AT PARTY, MEN REPORT

Police were investigating a complaint by two men who said they were robbed early Saturday morning in Pearl City by party crashers.

The men, ages 22 and 19, reported the incident at 2:20 a.m. The case was classified as a first-degree robbery and second-degree assault investigation.

The men told police that a group of 10 to 12 men, some carrying baseball bats, crashed a party and robbed them of their wallets.

A 17-year-old boy was treated for injuries to his face, police said.

No arrests had been made as of yesterday afternoon.



STABBING SUSPECT TURNS HIMSELF IN

A 22-year-old man turned himself in to police for questioning about a May 20 incident in Wai'anae Valley in which a boy was stabbed.

The man was arrested Friday on suspicion of first-degree assault.

The youth, whose age was not released, suffered serious injuries, police said.

He and the man were involved in a 3:30 a.m. physical confrontation that ended in the stabbing, police said.



MAN SUSPECTED OF TORCHING VEHICLE

Police have arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of setting another man's vehicle on fire Saturday night in Kapolei.

The man, suspected of first-degree arson and second-degree assault, was in custody at the police department's main station cellblock.

The incident was reported to police at 11:52 p.m. Saturday.
