ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Her daughter has become daddy's girl

Advertiser Staff

Sharing triumphs, tears and tips — all that and more is happening at Hawaii Moms.com, where moms talk story online 24/7. When one woman wrote about struggling with a clingy baby, another mom responded:

"My daughter is a real daddy's girl. Never listens to me, but as soon as Daddy talks, she is on her best behavior. I guess it's because I was working full time and her daddy was with her more than I was. I'm glad she's close to her dad, yet I wish I had that bond with her. ... Hopefully my son will be a mommie's boy. Hahaha."

A FATHER'S FODDER

WISE ADVICE FOR DADS-TO-BE

Here's a gift for almost-dads: "Don't Just Stand There: How to Be Helpful, Clued-In, Supportive, Engaged & Relevant in the Delivery Room" by husband-and-wife team Elissa Stein and Jon Lichtenstein (Chronicle Books, $12.95). "Nobody wants to feel like a third wheel, getting in the way," writes Lichtenstein, who has learned the ropes through his wife's two births. The little handbook is filled with details ("what her body is going through" during labor), practical advice (a menu of phrases to help mom concentrate: "Trust your body, it knows what to do") and humorous man-view asides. His parting words: "Whatever you do, don't do what I did — lie in her bed the morning after, eating her breakfast, while she packs the bags."
