The Pac-10 Conference has yet to decide if the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl will become a regular member of its bowl lineup.

A proposal from the Hawai'i Bowl is one of two the conference said it is still considering for its sixth and seventh picks for the 2008-2009 seasons. The other is the San Diego-based Poinsettia Bowl. Both were reviewed over the weekend at the annual Pac-10 summer meetings.

"Both are still viable candidates (for the sixth slot)," said Jim Muldoon, associate commissioner of the Pac-10. He said it could be August before a decision is made.

Arizona State became the first Pac-10 member to play in the 5-year old Hawai'i Bowl when the Sun Devils were beaten by Hawai'i, 41-24, on Christmas Eve 2006. The conference has an option to play here in 2008.

Hawai'i Bowl officials have said they would like a more enduring alignment with the Pac-10 because its teams have more recognition and following here than Conference USA, which the bowl has been partnered with in its first four years. C-USA and Western Athletic Conference representatives will meet Dec. 23 in the Hawai'i Bowl. UH will again represent the WAC as long as the Warriors are bowl eligible with seven or more victories.

The Holiday and Poinsettia bowls are both operated by the San Diego Bowl Association. The Holiday Bowl gets the second pick of bowl-eligible Pac-10 teams. Other bowls currently tied to the Pac-10 are the Rose, Sun, Las Vegas and San Francisco games.

All Pac-10 bowl ties will be up for renewal after the 2009 season.
