The Boys & Girls Club of America's Youth of the Year for Hawai'i is Kanani Santos, a four-year member of the Waianae Clubhouse.

It is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can attain. Santos receives a $1,000 scholarship from the Reader's Digest Foundation and will compete with others in the Pacific region for additional scholarships.

Santos mentors and guides younger club members as a teen leader during the summer and also tutors in the the club's learning center, said Puamamo Wa'a, Wai'anae club director.

She intends to attend the University of Hawai'i and study to be a pediatrician or a registered nurse.
