Kamuela plays Kauai for title

Jowen Murray-Thornton, a 2004 Saint Louis School graduate, had three hits and three RBIs as the Kamuela Paniolos beat the Waikiki Surfers, 8-4, yesterday to advance to today's championship game of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League.
David Parrow allowed two runs and seven hits over six innings to earn the victory for the Paniolos, who are 3-0 in the double-elimination tournament.
Kamuela will meet Kauai (3-1) at 9 a.m. at Kailua High School. If Kauai wins, a second game will follow.
Also yesterday, Josh Borges doubled, tripled and drove in three runs as Kauai beat Hawaii, 7-6, in an elimination game. C.J. Johnson had two hits and three RBIs for Hawaii.
Earlier, Kauai ousted Waikiki, 3-2, as Travis Higgs hit a two-run single in the sixth to put the Menehunes ahead to stay.
YOUTH BASEBALL
'AIEA ROCKS, 10-0
Austyn Nagamine pitched a five-inning no-hitter with one walk and two strikeouts as 'Aiea beat Southsound, Wash., 10-0, yesterday in the P.O.N.Y. Bronco (ages 11-12) West Zone Tournament at Olympia, Wash.
The game was shortened because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Troy Barboza-Scanlan batted 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs, and Nagamine, Travis Garcia-Perreira and Blaise DeSa each had two hits for 'Aiea.
'Aiea (2-1) plays Northern Washington today.
HILO ROLLS, 21-12
Bronson Pulgado had four hits, including a grand slam, as Hilo outslugged Taylorsville (Utah), 21-12, yesterday in the Cal Ripken (12-younger) Pacific Southwest Regional at Rohnert Park, Calif.
Colten Yamaguchi had three hits, including a home run, and Kean Wong, Chayce Kaaua, Dean Hosaka and Kian Kurokawa each batted 3 for 5 as Hilo got 23 hits.
Hilo (2-1) plays Bakersfield, Calif., today.
WINDWARD OUSTED
Windward was eliminated from the P.O.N.Y. Mustang (ages 9-10) West Zone Tournament after splitting a pair of games yesterday at Chino Hills, Calif.
In the first game, Roy Medina allowed one run over three innings and batted 4 for 4 with three runs in an 8-3 win over Chino Hills. Kekai Rios went 3 for 3 with a double and triple, and Stephen Lee and Dane Kamalu had two hits apiece for Windward.
In the second game, Los Alamitos, Calif., scored five runs each in the first and fifth innings to beat Windward, 12-6. Rios batted 2 for 3 with a double and homer for Windward, which finished 1-2 in the tournament.
YOUTH GOLF
CHING LEADING BY FOUR
Honolulu's Alex Ching shot a 4-under-par 68 yesterday to take a four-stroke lead into the final round of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Ching, a senior-to-be at Punahou School, had five birdies and one bogey to finish at 4-under 212.
Brandon Heinkel of Boynton Beach, Fla. (70) and Thailand's Thanachot Tandavas (71) share second in the 197-player field.
Jared Sawada of Mililani is tied for 129th at 78—241 and Kaua'i's Cory Oride is tied for 147th at 81—244.
In the girls division, 'Aiea's Anna Jang is tied for 19th at 77—235 and Honolulu's Brittany Isobe is tied for 98th at 89—277.
Catherine O'Donnell of Ponte Vedra, Fla., has a three-stroke lead in the 110-player field at 71—215.
Elsewhere, Alex Chiarella of Maui placed sixth in the Class of 2012 division Friday at the U.S. Kids Golf Teen World Championship in Naples, Fla. He finished four shots behind at 75—217.
