Lojeski scores 12 in game

Former University of Hawai'i basketball player Matt Lojeski tied for the team lead with 12 points to help the Utah Jazz to a 64-63 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on the opening night of the Rocky Mountain Revue summer league yesterday at Salt Lake City.

Lojeski, a 6-foot-6 guard, came off the bench and connected on 5 of 8 shots from the field, including 2 of 2 from 3-point range. He also grabbed three rebounds and had an assist.

Lojeski is attempting to make the Utah roster as a free agent.

Another former UH player, Carl English, scored six points for the Houston Rockets in a 74-69 victory over the Washington Wizards in a NBA Summer League game at Las Vegas.

English went 2 of 3 from 3-point range off the bench. He is attempting to make the Houston roster as a free agent.

YOUTH TEAM WINS TITLE

Nick Alarcio hit two home runs to lift the Hawai'i Sluggers to the under 12 week five title of the Cooperstown (N.Y.) Dreams Park baseball tournament.

The Sluggers beat Mac-N-Seitz Indians from Kansas, 11-5, yesterday. The Sluggers defeated the Texas Raptors, 12-0, Gulf Coast Gaters of Mississippi, 5-4 and TURN 2 Baseball of Texas, 4-0, to reach the title game.

Roster: Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Nick Alarcio, Marcus Doi, Mysha Sataraka, Austin Darmawan, Tyris Tominaga, David Torigue, Vance Fuchigami, Josh Conlan, Joshua Donovan, Donnevan Ito, Bryce Hiramatsu, Taylor Aiwohi. Coaches: Curtis Aiwohi, Virg Alarico, George Doi Jr., Glenn Fuchigami, Todd Tominaga. Manager: Fila Falefa.


VOLLEYBALL

U.S. MEN FALL TO POLAND

Honolulu's Clay Stanley led the United States with 15 points, including 12 kills, in a 25-22, 36-34, 25-23 loss to Poland in an FIVB World League, final-round, pool-play match yesterday at Spodek Hall in Katowice, Poland.

Stanley, a Kaiser High and University of Hawai'i alum, led all scorers and also had one block and two aces.

The U.S. men face Russia, winner of Pool F, in the semifinals today.
