'Diana: a Princess remembered'

Advertiser Staff

Ten years after her death in a car crash in a Paris tunnel, a new exhibition celebrating the life of Diana, Princess of Wales opened yesterday at her former home, Kensington Palace in London.

Marking Diana's life as princess, mother, fashion icon and humanitarian, the exhibition features more than 200 photographs alongside film footage and interviews with people who knew her personally. Several fashion designers talk about working with the princess to create the stunning evening dresses and formal day wear for which she was famous.

Photographers talk about photographing one of the world's most iconic women, and representatives from the many charities Diana patronized recall the princess's work and how she brought their issues to the forefront.

The tour finishes with a set of stunning portraits of the princess by Mario Testino. A selection of Diana's dresses, which raised a staggering $5.7 million for charitable causes at auction, is also displayed. Tickets: $24 adults; $12 children under 16.

"Diana: a Princess remembered" is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Dec. 31 at Kensington Palace. www.hrp.org.uk/KensingtonPalace/WhatsOn.

GOOGLE BRINGS CITY STREETS TO YOU

You don't have to be a map buff to know that Google Earth has transformed the use of maps on the Internet (http://earth.google.com). Users can move from viewing continents to zooming down into backyard swimming pools in a couple of clicks.

Street View, Google's latest venture (http://maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview/index.html) lets you see 360-degree imagery taken at street level, letting you explore city streets from the perspective of a pedestrian out for a stroll, even one who turns down side streets on a whim.

Five U.S. cities are currently in Street View: San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver, Miami and New York, with more to follow. You can e-mail a link of specific Street Views to friends, like this one of the Luxor in Las Vegas, http://tinyurl.com/2ptsth. You'll find Street View on other Web sites, too.
