Waimanalo Health Center to mark birthday with fair

Advertiser Staff

Waimanalo Health Center, which served more than 3,000 patients in the community last year, will mark its 15th anniversary tomorrow with a health and wellness fair in Waimanalo.

Health screenings, presentations, wellness activities and entertainment will be among the features of the fair on the grounds of the health center at 41-1347 Kalaniana'ole Highway.

"Because Waimanalo is a Native Hawaiian community and because Native Hawaiians have high morbidity and mortality rates, disease prevention, health education and wellness promotion are vital to reach our vision of healthier communities," said May Akamine, the center's executive director.

The center targets at-risk groups, including youth, elderly and anyone with financial, social or cultural barriers to healthcare.

The fair runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free.
