Jack Johnson will headline the Sydney, Australia, concert of Live Earth, former Vice President Al Gore's multicontinent, all-day series of shows for environmental awareness, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

The magazine said Johnson would headline a line-up that includes Midnight Oil, Crowded House and Silverchair. The concert is scheduled for July 7.

Johnson's choice of which of Live Earth's seven concerts he would play was obvious.

"New York and Australia are about the same distance for me," he told the magazine. "But Australia's waves are a lot better, so that made the decision easy."

Johnson headlined his fourth-annual environmental education benefit Kokua Festival on Saturday and Sunday at the Waikiki Shell. Performers at the sold-out show included Eddie Vedder, Ernie Cruz Jr., Matt Costa and The Girlas. The event was a fundraiser for Johnson's Kokua Hawaii Foundation.

The organizers of Live Earth are hoping to bring together more than 150 international musicians for 24 hours of music at seven concerts spread across all seven continents. Through television, radio, film and the Internet, Live Earth aims to reach an audience of more than 2 billion worldwide encouraging it to combat the climate crisis. Proceeds raised from the event will fund a new Gore-led foundation engaging in a multiyear global effort to fight the climate crisis.
