Punahou School has named David Trifonovitch, former head coach of the Hawai'i Tsunami professional soccer team, as its new varsity boys soccer coach.

Trifonovitch replaces Bob Clague, who guided the Buffanblu to 21 Interscholastic League of Honolulu championships and 16 state titles in 34 years.

According to a school press release, Trifonovitch grew up in Windward O'ahu and has more than 25 years of coaching experience at the high school, club and professional levels.

"David has the experience and enthusiasm to continue Punahou's tradition of excellence in soccer," Kale Ane, Punahou associate athletic director, said in the release. "The selection committee chose David from an outstanding candidate candidate pool."

Trifonovitch, who played at Cal State Dominguez Hills, has been active in the AYSO and HYSA youth programs.

ENOS STEPS DOWN

Enos, a former standout at Kaimuki who also coached at Wai'anae, guided the Rams to the O'ahu Interscholastic Association playoffs in each of his seven seasons. Radford advanced to the state tournament this past season, losing in overtime to Moanalua in the quarterfinals.

Enos, who was named OIA Western Division Coach of the Year in 2003, will remain on campus as a teacher, according to athletic director Kelly Sur.

Sur is seeking candidates with at least five years varsity head coaching experience and are certified to be full-time teachers.

Resumes may be sent to Radford High School, attn: Kelly Sur, 4361 Salt Lake Blvd., Honolulu, HI 96818, or may be sent via e-mail to kelly_sur@notes.k12.hi.us.
