Just like the battleship in Pearl Harbor, "Mighty Mo" the fighter was built to endure.

Siala Mou Siliga Jr. is one of the favorites in an eight-man super-heavyweight tournament that is part of the K-1 World Grand Prix in Hawai'i.

The professional kickboxing event will take place tomorrow at the Blaisdell Center Arena.

Siliga, who was born in American Samoa and raised in San Bernardino, Calif., will be fighting in Hawai'i for the first time.

"I have relatives here, so I'm excited to fight here," he said. "I feel like I have to represent my people. Not just Samoa, the Hawaiian brothers, too. All the Pacific Islands."

The winner of the tournament will have to prevail in three separate bouts tomorrow. The "last man standing" will earn a spot in the Grand Prix World Championship in Japan later this year.

"This will be a treat for the fans," K-1 promoter Mak Takano said. "These are some of the biggest and best fighters we have in the sport."

Siliga — who is known simply as Mighty Mo in the fight world — is 6 feet 1 and 290 pounds. His professional record is 29-5 with 21 knockouts.

"I have power and I'm durable," Siliga said. "I'm looking at getting three knockouts (on Saturday)."

Siliga has already defeated some of the best K-1 fighters in the world, including a spectacular knockout of 7-2, 355-pound Hong-Man Choi last month.

"I come to fight no matter who it is or how big they are," Siliga said.

And there will be some big fighters in the tournament. Also in the field are:

  • Gary Goodridge, from Trinidad and Tobago. He is 6-3 and 243 pounds, with a record of 33-30-2. He won an eight-man K-1 tournament in 2005 at Aloha Stadium.

  • Jan Nortje, from South Africa. He is 6-11 and 327 pounds, with a record of 21-29.

  • Julius Long, from Detroit. He is 7-1 and 249 pounds, with a record of 14-8.

In addition to the tournament, there will be a heavyweight championship bout between Badr Hari of Morocco and Yusuke Fujimoto of Japan.

In a separate bout, Mike Malone of Kane'ohe will take on Choi, who is the biggest fighter in the K-1 organization. Malone is 6 feet and 215 pounds.
