Don't expect any "over the hill" streamers when Hawai'i Pacific University marks its 40th anniversary today, though the upper Fort Street Mall will fill with the sights and sounds of celebration: music by ethnic bands, even a pep rally complete with cheerleading. And of course — the frosting on the event — students, staff and faculty will partake of a 40-foot-long cake. It starts at 10 a.m.; cake-cutting is after the 12:45 p.m. pep rally, and closing out today's festivities are local groups First Verse and Natural Vibrations, polishing off the day at 5. Information: 544-0879.

TAKE A BREAK FROM NUPTIAL DETAILS

Getting married and need to de-stress, like, now?

Here are three quick tips to help you loosen up before your Big Day, from www.TheKnot.com:

  • Take a 15-minute break: Taking a timeout from wedding planning will give you time to recharge. Fantasize about your honeymoon for a bit, then tackle that seating chart.

  • Set a limit: Fretting over minor wedding details for hours is only going to make you feel overwhelmed. Set some limits such as "No wedding plans after 4 p.m."

  • Smile at your sweetie: Keep a photo of your partner in your wallet or at your office. When you're feeling borderline frantic, take it out and smile. It will remind you what this wedding is really all about.
