Outrigger executive honored as leader

David Carey, president and CEO of Outrigger Enterprises, was named Ernst & Young Business Leader of the Year at the fourth annual Business Leadership Hawaii dinner Wednesday night.

The event, hosted by Pacific Business News, also honored Walter Dods, the chairman of First Hawaiian Bank and BancWest, with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Dods was praised for his commitment to the nonprofit sector through membership on numerous boards.

The other nominees for Business Leader of the Year included Murray Towill, president of Hawaii Hotel and Lodging Association; Nonie Toledo, vice president and general manager of Sprint Hawaii; John Morton, interim vice president for community colleges at the University of Hawai'i; and Mike Fisch, president and publisher of The Hono-lulu Advertiser.

The winner of the Best in Business Division I award was Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo, an architect and project design company. The Best in Business Division II award went to NovaSol, a develper of optical systems.

The Innovative Company of the Year award went to Hoku Scientific, which produces fuel cell components. The Community Spirit Award winner was First Hawaiian Bank.

The Cades Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Award went to Kauai Food Bank.
