Catch 2004 Korean flicks at inaugural K-Fest

Seven films from South Korea will be screened at the Doris Duke Theatre, Honolulu Academy of Arts, at K-Fest, an inaugural film series that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Hawaii International Film Festival. It's sponsored by the TV station KBFD.

All films, from 2004, are in Korean, with English subtitles. Tickets are $9 general, $8 military, seniors and students, $7 HIFF Ohana members. 550-8457, www.hiff.org. The schedule:

TODAY

7:30 p.m. "She's on Duty." (114 minutes, directed by Park Gwang-Choon.) Kim Seon-Ah stars in an action comedy about a good but hotheaded cop who goes undercover as a high-school student to befriend the daughter of a reformed criminal who might be the key to a major mob case.

SATURDAY

1 p.m. "Dance with the Wind." (98 minutes, directed by Park Jun-Woo.) Lee Sung-Jae stars as a salaryman who becomes a charismatic gigolo in the ballroom-dancing world. Enter a female undercover cop (Park Sol-Mi) who is determined to expose his scheming ways.

4 p.m. "My Brother." (113 minutes, directed by Ahn Gwon-tae). Shin Ha Kyun and Won Bin play brothers whose filial jealousy and competition for a pretty girl cause a rift that might remain unsettled.

7:30 p.m. "R-Point." (106 minutes, directed by Kong Su-Chang.) A supernatural thriller that takes place on the battlefields of Vietnam, 1972. A platoon responds to a distress call from a battalion thought dead, and finds that something more menacing than the Viet Cong may be lurking nearby.

SUNDAY

1 p.m. "Someone Special." (106 minutes, directed by Jang Jin.) Romantic comedy finds a baseball player who's been diagnosed with cancer and given just two months to live. He sets out to find out what love is, and encounters a young woman who turns out to be a shut-in. Will love develop?

4 p.m. "The Twins." (122 minutes, directed by Park Heung-Sik.) Two very different brothers — one shy and academic, the other a softie with a tough exterior — switch places.

7:30 p.m. "Innocent Steps." (110 minutes, directed by Park Yeong-Hun.) Moon Keun-Young plays a Korean dancer living in northeastern China. When her sister, who had planned to participate in a national sports dancing contest in Seoul, can't make the event, Moon takes her place. Unfortunately, she doesn't know the dances.

"Someone Special," a romantic comedy starring Jeong Jae-Yeong and Lee Na-Yeong, will be on at the Doris Duke Theatre at 1 p.m. Sunday.
