HILO, Hawaii — Police have opened a statewide search for a 6-year-old Hilo boy last seen in September near downtown Honolulu.

Missing is Peter Kema Jr. Police described him as of Filipino and Hawaiian descent, about 4 feet tall and 50 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

Big Island police said the boy’s father said he took the boy to Honolulu and left him with a relative that the father knows only as “Aunt Rose” at a lei stand near Aala Park.

Lt. Ronald Nakamichi said police do not know why the family did not come to police earlier.

Police ask that anyone with information to call Big Island police at 961-2327 or 935-3311, or Honolulu police at 911.
