On Oct. 15, 2000, Angela Perez Baraquio was crowned Miss America 2001 by Miss America 2000 Heather French. "I hope to make (people in Hawai'i) proud," she said after winning. On Sept. 22, 2001, Baraquio crowns Miss Oregon Katie Harman Miss America 2002 at the Atlantic City, N.J., Boardwalk Convention Hall.
