Linda Lingle on how to resolve the state's budget crisis, but the governor does not want to come to the table unless the unions present a formal plan.     North Korea fired seven ballistic missiles off its eastern coast today, South Korea said, a violation of U.N. resolutions and an apparent message of defiance to the United States on its Independence Day.     Firecracker fans reminded about risks involved

    The Honolulu Fire Department is encouraging Fourth of July celebrants to be mindful of the risks that fireworks pose in the middle of a dry season and in a densely populated city. "The risks are inherent in the product, but because of the environment (in Honolulu) the probability is higher," said Fire Capt. Terry Seelig, the department spokesman. More »

    Body of Lihu'e man found at waterfall

    The body of a 52-year-old Lihu'e man was discovered at the bottom of 'Opaeka'a Falls yesterday morning. Kaua'i police have not released the man's name. Two visitors hiking in the area around 10:15 a.m. found the victim floating in the pool and called police. Firefighters and the fire department helicopter responded to the call. More »
