What is MyAdvertiser.com?

MyAdvertiser.com is an online community where you can publish news and photos about your neighborhood, business, church, organization, family, sports team or other group. There is no charge and anyone can participate. All you have to do is register--click 'Become a member' under the navigation tabs at the top of the page--and follow a few simple rules.

What are the rules?

As a citizen journalist, you're responsible for the accuracy of the material you send. Please be careful to check names and dates. Notify us promptly if a correction is needed.

MyAdvertiser.com is a place for news, not opinions or advertisements. Please use the forums to share your opinions.

No obscene or offensive language will be published. We reserve the right to reject postings, and we encourage members to notify us of objectionable content. A detailed explanation of rules and responsibilities is available at honoluluadvertiser.com.

What's appropriate?

• Local News: What's up where you live? This can include everything from neighborhood news to an event at a local business.

• Education: Share news from your child's school.

• Community Organizations: Send news about your club, church group or other nonprofit organization.

• Local Sports and Recreation: Did your sports team win big? Is your child's soccer club holding tryouts?

• Events: Publicize events, public meetings, church suppers or other events. You can also email information for our calendar to myadvertiser@honoluluadvertiser.com.

• Celebrations: Share your anniversaries, engagements, awards, graduations and other events.

What do I write?

When writing your story, remember the basics of journalism: who, what, where, when, why and how. Keep your writing simple and short. The best rule of thumb is to ask yourself what you'd need to know if your neighbor was explaining the story to you.

What about photos?

If you don't have a story, but have a great photo to share, you can contribute to one of our public galleries or create your own personal gallery. Make sure to provide brief information for the caption. You also can include photos with stories. Size limit: 2 MB.
