Nate Klein pitched six strong innings and Jeffrey Van Doornum homered to help Hawai‘I hold off No. 25 Oregon, 4-3, tonight to take the opener of a four-game series before 969 at Les Murakami Stadium.

Klein (1-0) went six-plus innings, allowing three runs, seven hits and two walks with one strikeout for the Rainbows (2-3).
Lenny Linsky pitched two perfect innings for his first save.
Tyler Anderson (1-10 allowed four runs, one earned, four hits and six walks with eight strikeouts in five innings for the Beavers (3-2).
The Rainbows sent nine batters to the plate in a three-run first inning. Breland Almadova led off with a walk, but Greg Garcia struck out. Almadova took second when Kolten Wong bounced out to the pitcher. Kevin Macdonald reached first on a passed ball on a called third strike as Almadova took third. Collin Bennett reached on a single to short to score Almadova and moved Macdonald to second. David Freitas walked and the runners later advanced on a wild pitch, scoring Macdonald. Jeffrey Van Doornum reached on a fielding error by the third baseman, allowing Bennett to score.  Piikea Kitamura walked to load the bases, but Sean Montplaisir struck to end the inning.
The Beavers pulled to 3-2 in the third on a two-run single by Marcus Piazzisi.
Hawai‘I added to its lead in the fifth. Freitas doubled to center with one out, but was picked off second before Van Doornum’s opposite-field homer to right to increase UH’s lead to 4-2.
The Ducks cut their deficit to one in the seventh. Danny Pulfer singled to short and went to third when JJ Altobelli fisted a single to right. Klein was pulled for the left-handed Blair Walters to face the left-handed hitting Curtis Raulinaits, who grounded to short for a double play as Pulfer scored to pull Oregon to 4-3.
