Restaurants spread thanks this holiday

Editor's Note: During the next couple of issues, we'll provide a sneak preview of what some restaurants around town will be serving on Thanksgiving Day.

The Kahala

Gourmet turkey dinner packages will be available from The Kahala Hotel & Resort, 5000 Kahala Ave., 739-8760), for pick-up on Thanksgiving Eve (4 to 7 p.m.) and Day (9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). Pick-up times will be available in half-hour intervals at the hotel's loading dock.

For $150, the "Complete Turkey Dinner" features a 12- to 14-pound bird, onions-celery-bacon-and-chestnut stuffing, autumn vegetables with roasted pumpkin seeds, fall garden salad with lilikoi vinaigrette, mashed potatoes, ciabatta bread, tarty cranberry sauce, herb-scented gravy and pumpkin pie.

At the restaurants, Hoku's Thanksgiving Day brunch buffet will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will cost $70 for adults and $52 for kids 4 to 12 years old.

Available from November 24 through 30, a five-course holiday dinner will be prepared by executive chef Wayne Hirabayashi and his culinary team.

For $70, dinner will include macadamia-nut-crusted foie gras terrine, honey-glazed duck breast salad, pumpkin bisque, oven-roasted turkey or a different entree selection from the a la carte menu.

Downstairs at Plumeria Beach House, chefs will roll out a lavish Thanksgiving Day brunch buffet from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and an all-you-can-eat dinner from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Each is priced at $60 for adults and $45 for keiki.

Twist

Chef Ryan Loo will put a spin on the traditional holiday dinner at Twist at Hanohano (Sheraton Waikiki, 2255 Kalakaua Ave., 921-4600).

His four-course menu will include Aloun Farms gingered kabocha pumpkin bisque, Kona cold lobster Waldorf salad, herb-roasted smoked turkey and, for dessert, cinnamon-and-caramel apple pie.

Dinner will cost $85; or $110 or $130, depending on wine pairings.

The regular menu will be available, with prices starting at $65 for a three-course meal.

The band Hot Club of Hulaville will perform from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Wailana

For a casual Thanksgiving Day meal out, check out Wailana Coffee House (1860 Ala Moana Blvd., 955-1764).

As they have in previous years, cooks here will prepare such traditional holiday meals as homemade turkey-and-smoked-ham dinner ($12.25), New York steak ($16.25) and seafood Continental ($13.50).

Each entree comes with salad bar; soup of the day or minty fruit cocktail; a choice of starch; corn on the cob; a slice of pumpkin pie; and coffee, tea or soda.

An all-day special will offer eggs Benedict Royal for $9.50.

Let chef Russell Siu and his staff prepare your turkey dinner this year at 3660 on the Rise (3660 Waialae Ave., 737-1177).

For $150, the 12- to 14-pound turkey is served warm and ready to eat. Side dishes include mashed potatoes, applewood-smoked-bacon-and-Maui-onion stuffing, cranberry relish, sauteed vegetables, mixed Nalo Greens, taro rolls and, for dessert, pumpkin cheesecake.

Kamaaina can also order the ready-to-bake apple crisp ($30), which can go from the oven to the table in a ceramic casserole dish.

The restaurant's Thanksgiving Day buffet will be served from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Cost will be $44.75 for adults and $17.75 for children 3 to 10 years old.

Menu highlights will include carved prime rib, seared salmon with pineapple salsa, and roast pork and turkey with natural gravy.

The Mandalay

Chefs at The Mandalay (1055 Alakea St., 525-8585) will roll out a Thanksgiving Day dim sum brunch and dinner buffet.

Brunch is priced at $19.99 for adults, $17.99 for diners 60 years and older, and $13.99 for keiki 3 to 12 years.

In the evening, dinner will cost $27.99 for adults, $24.99 for seniors and $17.99 for kids.

In addition to a wide array of appetizers, salads, soups and entrees, the buffet will also showcase roast turkey with Chinese-style stuffing, spare ribs, baked glazed ham, snow crab legs, prime rib and roast pig.

Sansei / dk

For a not-so-traditional holiday meal, make reservations for Sansei Restaurant & Sushi Bar (2552 Kalakaua Ave., Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, 931-6286) or d.k Steak House (931-6280).

Sansei chefs will prepare such specials as turkey roulade ($22), stuffed with grilled asparagus, sundried tomatoes and brie cheese; and Fontina-cheese-and-applewood-smoked-bacon-stuffed pork chop ($23).

Guests can also order "New Style" lomi lomi salmon ($16), fresh blue fin ootoro sashimi ($18, half order; $35, full) and the "Diamond Head Sunrise" roll ($18).

At d.k's, chefs will open for brunch, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A four-course set menu will be priced at $39.95, which includes a choice of appetizer; soup or salad; and dessert.

Entree options will be local-style turkey, turkey BLT sandwich, "Mom Kodama's" loco moco meatloaf, traditional eggs Benedict or king crab Florentine snapper.

In the evening, special entree selections will feature roast turkey served with Molokai mashed potatoes and Portuguese-sausage-and-macadamia-nut stuffing ($24.95); king crab Florentine snapper ($28.95); and "turducken" roll ($26.95), turkey duck and chicken breast rolled with proscuitto, gorgonzola cheese and sage.

Beachhouse

Take in the ocean view while having Thanksgiving Day dinner at Beachhouse (Moana Surfrider, a Westin Resort, 2365 Kalakaua Ave., 921-4600).

Reservations will be available between 5:30 and 9 p.m.

Chef Rodney Uyehara will lavish parents and their kids with two separate menus.

For $65, the adult menu will start with a choice of eggplant-and-goat-cheese soufflee, Kahuku-corn-and-clam chowder or plump salmon cakes.

For their main entree, mom and dad can opt for prime rib of beef, traditional roast turkey or pork osso buco.

Dessert is also included.

Priced at $35 for kids 12 years and younger, the keiki menu will start with ham-and-cheese panini, followed by a choice of either prime rib or turkey.

Panya

Panya Bakery (711 Queen St., 597-8880) is now taking orders for its complete Thanksgiving dinners to go.

Enough for six people, the holiday dinner costs $198, which includes a choice of mochi-rice-stuffed roast turkey or honey-mustard-glazed ham.

Dinner comes complete with mesclun-and-heart-of-Romaine salad, an appetizer platter and choice of pumpkin crunch, or pumpkin, custard or pumpkin-custard pie.

Cost is $98 if ordering just the roast turkey and ham with mochi rice

Sarento's

Open from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Sarento's Top of the "I" (Ilikai Hotel, 955-5559) will offer a three-course dinner for $30 for adults and $14 for keiki 12 years and younger.

Dinner starts with a house-special Caesar salad, followed by marinated and slow-roasted free-range turkey accompanied by pancetta dressing, cranberry sauce, butter-whipped potatoes, caramelized baby carrots and pan gravy.

Dessert will be the classic pumpkin pie.
