In memory of their fallen comrade, 1LT Daniel B. Hyde, on 6 March 2010 at 4:30am, Team Hyde raced to the top of Haleakala in this year's unofficial Race to the Sun in Maui. They completed the 36+ mile course in 5 hours, 7 minutes, and 56 seconds which set a team relay course record. More »

Natural causes, not injuries, killed victim in 2-car crash

An autopsy has determined that a 28-year-old Hilo man who was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle Saturday died of natural causes, and not from injuries sustained in the collision. Kimo K. Elderts was involved in the two-vehicle crash on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway, three-tenths of a mile south of the 71-mile marker, shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday. More »

$39M Kauai road its first in concrete

PUHI, Kaua'i — A two-year, $39 million project to widen Kaumuali'i Highway from Lihu'e to Puhi to four lanes was kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday. Contractor Kiewit Pacific Co. will build Kaua'i's first Portland Cement concrete highway on the two-mile stretch of road from the Anonui Road intersection, west of the Kaua'i Community College, to the Lihu'e mill bridge.
