Hakipu'u Learning Center instructor Calvin Hoe gives a hands-on demonstration on planting taro huli — young shoots of the taro plant — in the public charter school's taro lo'i in Ha'iku Valley. The school's motto is "Ma ka hana ka 'ike," or "The learning is in the doing."
