The face consists of millions of vertically-aligned carbon nanotubes, grown by a high temperature chemical reaction. A team of University of Michigan researchers has created carbon nanotube images of Obama that include a "nanobama" flag and "nanobama" blocks. There's even a "nanobiden" image of the incoming vice president. But the images only can be photographed with special cameras and seen through a microscope. The stuff of science fiction, each of the millions of carbon nanotubes that make up Obama's image is tens of thousands times smaller than a human hair, but stiffer than steel. (AP Photo/John Hart)
