Type 1 Diabetes

Ten-year-old Ella Axlerod shows teacher Leanne Chew how to draw blood so the meter can read the glucose at Island Pacific Academy in Kapolei. Ella, along with her mom Bernie and dad Mike, demonstrated to her middle school teachers and staff how she is treated for Type 1 diabetes. People with type 1 diabetes produce no insulin. In order to survive, they must have it delivered by injection or a pump.
