A Kauai County news release said Preston Ramson was traveling west on Kaumualii Highway when the car he was driving left the road, clipped a utility pole and the end of mao Bridge and plunged into the ravine.

The vehicle was discovered by patrol officers at 1:37 a.m. yesterday.

Both lanes of Kaumualii Highway were closed after the crash, and traffic was re-routed until about 7:50 am.

Police said speeding and alcohol may have been factors in the accident.

It was the eighth traffic fatality on Kauai this year.
